Lemon Squeezer to Lichen Trail Hike

Basic Information

Trail guide that we used to hike the Lemon Squeezer

Date of hike: 12/31/2020

Difficulty level: moderate

Distance: 7.4 miles loop

Elevation: 1,363 feet

Location: Harriman State Park, Orange County, Tuxedo, NY

The Lemon Squeezer is an unusual geological rock formation that makes one feel like he is getting squeezed on the 1 foot wide path.  The trail was discovered by J. Ashton Allis, one of the founders of the Appalachian Trail.

Our Impressions

Another lemon squeezing us?  How is this possible?  Nothing compared to the mammoth we went through in September, still a great and super challenging hike.  No difficult rock scrambles or large crevices but a few tight spaces to squeeze through.  Unfortunately, we did not get to finish the loop as it was New Year’s Eve and it was getting dark.  We met a few local hikers who offered to bring us out by the entrance to their community and give us a lift home.  We hiked about 6 miles of the entire loop.  Definitely a place to return to in the future.
